TOKYO LIGHTS

My name is Carli, and I will be living in Tokyo for four months. This is where I will record my adventures.

This will be a diary of sorts. I will post stories, photos, and videos.

Click the "message" link above if you have any questions about my life in Tokyo! (Don't forget to leave your name if you don't have a Tumblr account and don't want to message anonymously...!)

I started doing some sketches on the train the other day.
I love being an observer, I catch myself staring at people constantly, no matter how rude it is haha. So drawing people on the train felt really good.
No one got upset or anything when they noticed me drawing them, which is really nice. I will do it again, but it’s hard because most of the time the train is too crowded for me to even get my sketchbook out!
I’ll probably make sure to draw the sleeping people, too. Might be a lot easier!

That’s all for now. I’ll try to keep updating. Life here is just so exciting, I don’t want to waste any time sitting around on the computer! :P

Kumamiki and Junnyan, looking fabulous at the Harajuku Fashion Walk!

On the day we went to the Harajuku Fashion Walk, we stopped at 6%DOKI DOKI and a few others stores, including this one!
Where Kyary Pamyu Pamyu used to get a lot of her wigs!

At the Trump Room, January 20th.

Such a cool place. The decor, people, and music was awesome. I’d love to go back.

The last two weeks have been spent doing a lot of school work and still getting my life all organized here in Tokyo. All of the paperwork and that boring stuff has been taken care of!

The classes I am taking at TUJ are Advanced Drawing, Intermediate Painting, Arts of Asia, and Japanese Elements 1 (I failed my placement test so they made me take the first level… ugh!). So far I love all of my classes, except for Japanese! We’re doing katakana and hiragana… it’s so easy right now it hurts! Oh well, it’ll be good for me to go over the basics.

I’ve been having a really good time with all of the people here. I’ve made some really good friends, which is super!

Things that have occurred since I last posted that are worth mentioning:

  1. I hate the trains. They are so crowded, I have been squished too much.
  2. I want to get a bike. ASAP.
  3. I am already dreading leaving.
  4. Went dancing at a club in Shibuya on January 20th, at a place called the Trump Room. Funnest time of my life.
  5. Japanese curry is my favourite thing ever.
  6. There is a wonderful art store in Shinjuku called Sekaido. I love it and want to shop there all the time, but it is so far away from my dorm.
  7. I went to the Harajuku Fashion Walk, which was amazing! I met Kumamiki and Junnyan, and the guy who started Japanese Streets.com! It was amazing, pictures to come.
  8. My friend Airin and myself were interviewed about Kyary Pamyu Pamyu on the HFW, since I was wearing part of my Kyary costume. We ended up being on a morning news program called ZIP!

School life is so busy… but I’m about to post some things! Woohoo! Finally :P!

It was January 9th yesterday and we explored Ikebukuro and Sunshine City, and then went up Tokyo Tower.
It was amazing. That is a view I will never get tired of! When going around Tokyo on the trains it doesn’t feel so big, but when you get up there you see it just goes on forever.
This is such an amazing place, and I am so blessed to be living here.
Today is my first day of classes at TUJ! :)
